The Superior Audit Office of the Federation has pointed out the former mayor of San Pedro, Miguel Treviño de Hoyos, for an alleged unjustified expenditure of 285.5 million pesos during his administration. The agency issued a report mentioning alleged irregularities in 10 public works contracts and three contracts for the provision of acquisitions and services, without specifying which ones are referred to.
The former mayor does not have the support of Governor Samuel García, with whom he tried to negotiate a candidacy for the Senate in 2023. The Superior Audit Office of the Federation also observed irregularities in other municipalities, such as Monterrey, Salinas Victoria, Linares, and Cadereyta, for million-dollar amounts.
The project details that "the Municipality of San Pedro committed infractions for the fiscal year 2023, which resulted in probable damage to the Public Treasury amounting to 285,593.0 thousand pesos, which represented 55.4% of the operations selected for auditing".
Overcosts, non-executed work concepts, excessive payments for works, and lack of application of conventional penalties were found, as well as 23 Promotions of Administrative Sanction Responsibility against various municipal officials. The controversy in the public accounts adds to the problems with former officials, including the former legal director and the secretary of urban development, who are facing legal proceedings and sanctions.
In addition to conflicts with officials, Treviño also faced criticism and confrontations with opposition political actors and his own independent faction during his term as mayor.
